Abstract

Teacher engagement is important for effective teaching and positive school outcomes. However, few studies have examined the combined influence of pedagogical leadership and workplace spirituality on teacher engagement in Philippine public schools. This study determined the influence of pedagogical leadership and workplace spirituality on teacher engagement among 233 public high school teachers in the Division of Davao del Norte, Philippines. It used a quantitative, non-experimental descriptive-correlational research design. Data were gathered using validated survey questionnaires. The data were analyzed using mean, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The results showed very high levels of pedagogical leadership, workplace spirituality, and teacher engagement. The findings also showed significant positive relationships between pedagogical leadership and teacher engagement and between workplace spirituality and teacher engagement. Multiple regression analysis revealed that pedagogical leadership (β = 0.162, p < .05) and workplace spirituality (β = 0.662, p < .05) significantly predicted teacher engagement. Workplace spirituality was the stronger predictor of teacher engagement. The regression model explained 64.1% of the variance in teacher engagement (R² = 0.641). These findings suggest that effective instructional leadership and a meaningful work environment help increase teacher engagement. The study highlights the importance of strengthening pedagogical leadership and workplace spirituality to improve teacher engagement and school effectiveness.
